Meet Your Instructor

Hi! I'm Karen Wade and one of my first memories is of drawing Big Bird, and getting hooked on creating art.

I have a BA in Studio Art, and a current teaching certificate in Visual Arts and in Gifted Education. I have taught art in public and private schools from Pre-K to 12th grade for 20+ years. Now, I teach online, and offer in-person classes in painting and sewing.

Through my calm and positive instructional style, I encourage artists to engage in art making and trust their own ideas. I model being okay with making mistakes (they are a natural part of learning), trying new things, and sharing ideas.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing with my 3 cats, playing music, and cooking. I also enjoy making my own art: painting and designing fabric. Spending time with my family here in South Carolina is one of my greatest joys.
